Iman Europe’s “And So It’s So” is one of the most lovely songs to come out in the last three months. Musically, it comes across like a breath of fresh air, albeit the short runtime (it clocks in at two minutes and three seconds). Europe was raised in NY but has since relocated and been living in Los Angeles and the song does a good job of finding a balance between those two regions. On one hand, the beat (wonderfully provided by Florida-based producer Kaelin Ellis) has an almost colder, chillier feel, sort of like New York, which, when paired with the lightness and airiness of Europe’s sunny Los Angeles sounding voice makes for a fascinating and unique oxymoron.
The lyrics aren’t earth-shattering or groundbreaking, either; they’re a very simple manifestation. “This day is gonna be wonderful, I said it. And so it’s so. And so it’s so. Cause I know my words, they come with worth, they come with power. So I speak of substance, and I say ‘Abundance, it is ours’”. There is nothing complex or even deeply profound in what’s being said, and yet, the delivery is so transcendental and soothing that listeners can’t help but have their mood instantly lifted or improved upon as soon as they listen.
This is the type of song that I could imagine an annoying twitter personality could tweet out with a caption like “Morning vibes”, but there is something genuinely vibey and completely comforting about this song. Upon hearing it for the first time, I walked around Manhattan for a good half hour just listening to it and counting my blessings, reminding myself the importance of gratitude and the necessity of stability. It’s a really powerful thing when music can reshape or refocus your perspective and truthfully, I think this is one of those songs that has that ability. A must-listen.
