GALAGA

”I’m in the bih for a reason.”

1/24/2022

“I’m in the bih for a reason.”

This is just one of the many bars that stuck with me, written by Sailor Santana (IG: @sailorsantanax, Twitter @saiyanmoons) on his latest track: Galaga (released Jan 14th on all platforms). Sailor is a Fort Lauderdale-based artist signed to Grindhouse Music Group and stands out with his melodic style and romanticized expression.

For Galaga, the Grindhouse artist teamed up with the producer nnovad for a vibey single that is expected to be a prelude to Sailor’s upcoming, highly anticipated album: Day Prince. His first drop of 2022 certainly did not disappoint. He explained to me that this single and it’s timing is a statement. “Even though I’ve dropped before, I’ve never dropped with this mindset and knowledge… I just felt like it was a perfect time to start taking things more seriously.”

That’s why his bar “I’m in this bih for a reason” echoed so much to me. As artists, we all try to put out music to keep up with the demand, but we all have that moment where we being to move with more focus and intention. And this song signifies that turning point for Sailor in convincing fashion! We can only imagine the growth that his music will grow through as he continues to evolve. “You can go far if you want to, my nigga / You know you just gotta believe it.” This couplet also resonated with me heavily. Not only does Sailor show off his vocal range, he also give us encouraging messages. Especially in an era where music, specifically rap, carries a dark connotation, Santana breaks down those stereotypes and proceeds unapologetically with positivity. It’s a powerful sentiment and helps to set him a part.

“My inspiration stems from dedication, and passion, beauty and much more.” He can easily tell you, but the best way to fully understand would be to experience for yourself. Galaga is available on all platforms now. “I need more than love / I need more than that.” Sailor’s album, Day Prince, is expected to release in March or April of 2022. Keep your eye for his upcoming projects.
